Faulty Airbags, Potential Lawsuits Lead to Separate Jeep and Kia Recalls

The Wall Street Journal reports that "Chrysler Group LLC said it is recalling 5,334 Jeep Wrangler vehicles from the 2008 through 2012 model years to fix a problem that could cause malfunctions in their airbag systems." According to the report, this issue is limited to a small group of Wranglers which were sold in the United States with their steering wheels positioned on the right side of the vehicle. The news source explains that most of these vehicles are used for rural postal delivery.

Potential Airbag Failure, Lawsuits Prompt Hyundai SUV Recall

A recent Autoweek recall article announced that Hyundai has recalled  “205,233 copies of the 2007-2008 Santa Fe and Veracruz because of an issue with the airbags.” According to the auto news source, “Hyundai has received about 7,800 warranty claims as a result of airbag defects in these vehicles, though the carmaker said it is not aware of any related accidents or injuries.”

Nissan Recalls Popular Vehicles For Ineffective Airbags

Nissan recalled more than 200,000 of its vehicles in February 2008 due to problems with an electrical component that could potentially cause the airbags to be ineffective during a crash incident. Vehicles covered under the recall included the 2007-2008 year models of its Infiniti EX35, G35 and G37 as well as the Nissan 350Z, Altima, Murano and Rogue.

To date, no injuries have been reported but owners of the affected models were urged at th time to bring their vehicles to Nissan or the appointed dealers for the problem to be fixed.
